Rapper Responds To Fan's Death Of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Kid Cudi took to his blog the day after fan Ben Breedlove died from a heart attack to express his admiration for the Austin, Texas, teenager.

The 18-year-old had a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and passed away on Christmas Day after recently posting videos on YouTube, where he explained cheating death three times and confessed his admiration for rapper Kid Cudi. (Click to view videos.)

The musician, who's real name is Scott Mescudi, posted this message on his blog, "Cud Life" on Dec. 26:

Iam [sic] so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, Iam [sic] to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do...Thank you for loving me. To Ben's family, you raised a real hero, he's definately [sic] mine. You have my love.

In his videos, Breedlove told about a vision he had on Dec. 6 when his heart stopped. As paramedics tried to resuscitate him, Breedlove said he was transported into a white room with the rapper.

"Why he was the only one there with me, I'm still trying to figure out," Breedlove states on his flashcard, as he smiles. In the vision, the rapper leads him to a glass desk just as the teen's favorite song, "Mr. Rager" begins playing.

Breedlove points out that a specific line from the song stood out: "When will the fantasy end and heaven begin?"

The teen's brave outlook on life and death captured the hearts of his loved ones and his viewers. His obituary, which was published in the Austin American-Statesman on Dec. 29, describes Breedlove's passion for his audience, MTV News observed.

From the obituary:

Through his brilliance with maneuvering the capabilities of YouTube, Ben has left a message for his generation. In the weeks prior to his death, he had faced some scary situations with his health, but had been given an amazing gift that he was determined to share; first with us, his family, and then, not surprisingly (and generously) with his YouTube audience.

Like Kid Cudi, HuffPost readers expressed their condolences and wished the family well.

"What an amazing, inspiring person! My heart goes out to his family and friends. The silver lining to this tragedy is that his memory continues to spread warmth and love," user DelaneyRSchmitt wrote in a comment.

"This young man made me feel profoundly sad and happy and peaceful all at the same time. Rest in peace," HuffPost user MiddleRiver added.
