AP Police mulls giving corporate look to police stations

Hyderabad, Dec 30 (PTI) Does the thought of a female receptionist handling your complaints at a police station seem too far fetched? Not necessarily, if one goes by what Andhra Pradesh Police are planning to do in the New Year.
Andhra Pradesh Police is planning to introduce ''Model Police Stations'' to help the public while lodging a complaint.
"We are trying on build a ''Model Police Station'' on the lines of a corporate office that will have a lady receptionist with colourful dress (rather than khaki-clad) to look into public complaints. As such, any person who approaches the police station can be at ease rather than being under fear while filing a complaint," Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy told reporters here today.
"We are planning to bring about similar measures through innovative ways to become more people friendly during 2012," he said.
Another plan is to have a single Police Commissionerate for Hyderabad city from the existing Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerates, Reddy said, adding, "We felt it is better to have a single commissionerate for Hyderabad. We have to form a committee regarding the matter as it is a major exercise."
These plans are at nascent stage. Before starting we have to study various aspects, he said.
Similarly, plans are afoot to set up one battalion of APSP (Andhra Pradesh Special Police) in every district of the state besides on setting up composite police control rooms in Hyderabad and in different parts of the state to handle different calls of public including fire assistance, he added.
