World Malaria Day is April 25; Malaria No More Teams Up with Inspirato’s Inspired Giving to End Malaria Deaths

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Malaria No More is a committed partner in the global effort to end malaria deaths in Africa, and Inspirato's new Inspired Giving platform leverages exceptional travel experiences to support some of the world's most innovative charitable organizations. The two have joined together in a new partnership that helps Malaria No More develop a significant source of year-round revenue for its work supporting the unprecedented global effort to end malaria. Malaria is an infectious blood disease transmitted by mosquitoes that killed 655,000 people in 2010, according to the World Health Organization's most recent World Malaria Report. World Malaria Day is April 25.

Inspirato's new online Inspired Giving platform (www.inspiredgiving.com) was designed to help charitable organizations like Malaria No More raise funds in a new way. Donors who contribute $2,000 to Malaria No More through the Inspired Giving website gain select access to Inspirato's club-managed portfolio of vacation residences with previously members-only discounts and unparalleled personal vacation services in locations ranging from California and Colorado to Mexico and Hawaii.

The Inspired Giving donation model benefits Malaria No More in a number of ways:

  • For every $2,000 donated to Malaria No More through Inspirato's Inspired Giving website, the donor gains one-time access to an Inspirato luxury vacation – priced at up to 50 percent under market value, and without having to pay the $15,000 Inspirato membership fee.
  • Inspirato contributes one Inspired Giving vacation that Malaria No More can auction to raise funds. Of those contributed monies, 100 percent goes back to Malaria No More.
  • For every new Inspirato membership that is generated from a Malaria No More donor, the company gives $2,000 to Malaria No More as an Inspirato Inspired Giving partner.

Malaria No More will offer multiple opportunities throughout the year for supporters to donate to its cause through Inspirato's Inspired Giving, including at high-profile fundraising events in key markets such as New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

Funds raised will be applied toward Malaria No More's malaria control interventions and health communication campaigns. For example, in Africa, its NightWatch campaign airs nightly public service announcements via radio in malaria-endemic communities across Africa at nine o'clock p.m., when the malarial mosquito comes out to bite, reminding households to sleep under their mosquito nets. Since its founding in 2006 by media executive Peter Chernin and finance pioneer Ray Chambers, now the United Nations Special Envoy for Malaria, the organization has distributed nearly three million mosquito nets. In the U.S., innovative awareness efforts such as Comedy Fights Malaria boost education about the malaria epidemic in Africa and have proven effective in inspiring Americans to take action and make a difference.

"Ending malaria through prevention and treatment is an achievable cause, and it's unacceptable that so many children die from something as silly as a mosquito bite, let alone a disease we know how to cure," said Richard Thayer, events and special project manager for Malaria No More. "We've seen extraordinary, tangible progress as the world has come together to end malaria in Africa and people have learned to think about and respond to malaria in a new way. But there is still so much more work to be done."

The World Health Organization this year reported that malaria deaths have been reduced by more than 25 percent globally since 2000, and by 33 percent in Africa, where nearly 90 percent of deaths occur. In the U.S., more than 50 percent of Americans now recognize malaria as a major global challenge – compared to 28 percent in 2006.

For Malaria No More's donors, the donation and vacation booking experience is simple: the donor is given access to Inspirato's Inspired Giving exclusive web portal, www.inspiredgiving.com; selects Malaria No More as the charitable organization of choice; and makes a tax-deductible donation of $2,000. That donor is then able to book a vacation to a luxury Inspirato destination and enjoy all that Inspirato members enjoy, including: personalized service from an Inspirato vacation advisor, exclusive discounts up to 50 percent off market prices, an on-site destination concierge, and luxurious accommodations ranging from intimate, couples-only, one-bedroom retreats to large, well-appointed homes in excess of 3,000 square feet.

"Donors get access to Inspirato's incredible vacations on breathtaking properties in stunning locations around the globe. And they do this with the satisfaction of knowing they are benefitting a cause near to their hearts at the same time," said Jackie Benton, executive director of Inspirato's Inspired Giving. "We are excited to provide Malaria No More with this unique fundraising platform – and to offer donors the rare opportunity to experience club-style luxury travel in some of the world's most desirable vacation destinations."
