Google Goggles update doubles recognition speed

Google Goggles is often likened to magic, like that first time you saw a music-recognition app like Shazam just figure out what song you were listening to. Goggles goes a different route, using a smartphone's camera to translate images into tangible information.

Not only can Goggles scan barcodes and outline what product it represents, but it can read text and translate it using Google Translate. In a recent update, Google added the ability to identify famous works of art (Starry Night!), scan and parse text with a reliable OCR reader, and identify contacts from a business card. It can "recognize paintings, books, dvd, cds, and just about any 2D image," and even solve Sudoku puzzles.

Version 1.8 doubles the speed of identification, and allows you to save multiple picks in Continuous Mode, which you can review, in bulk, later on.

Download Google Goggles from the Play Store.
