Grimm On-the-Scene Special: The Cast Is Ready to Kick Some Monster Ass!
Posted on Saturday, October 29, 2011 by today
NBC's Grimm premieres tonight, which means you have another show about attractive monster hunters to watch on Fridays. Which is a hardly something to complain about, right?
We were on the Portland set of the fairy-tale cop procedural recently, and not only did we get a tour of Grimm descendant Nick's (our new TV crush David Giuntoli) weapons trailer, but we also got the cast to give us all the goods on their new show. Mostly, they want you guys to be prepared for all the scares, thrills and humor of Grimm. And FYI, Buffy and Angel fans: You might want to tune in…

"Grimm is a cop drama kind of completely turned on its head," Giuntoli tells us. "It's a cop drama, but fairy tales are kind of this world now. And it has a lot of humor. It comes from the people who made Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I think the fans can expect a lot of suspense, a lot of thrills and they can expect to be scared on Friday nights, which is kind of how we want it. The writers have been fantastic in weaving in the irreverence and light moments that any Buffy fan would absolutely recognize and love."
Giuntoli plays Nick, who is front and center of one of our favorite TV plot points: an ordinary person whose life is turned upside down by some big event they have no control over.
"Nick is a normal guy. He's a homicide detective who is smart [with] a lovely life. He's got a girlfriend who he's in love with and he's going to propose to her," he says. "And then boom! In the first episode this major incident takes place where he finds out that he is not going to have this simple life anymore and he is going to have to shoulder this entirely new identity: he is one of the last surviving members of the Grimm family, who are these monster profilers."
Pretty intense stuff, eh? So where does that leave things with his soon-to-be fiancé? Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Nick's gal Juliet, tells us: "[She doesn't] really know everything [Nick's] hiding. He's doing a good job at it. What I can tell you is that how I assumed the show writers were going to do the big reveal for me is not how it is at all. I assumed it was going to be more like 'I think he's cheating on me because he's absent-minded, he's gone, he's not responding' and all this stuff and it wasn't that at all."
But enough about the relationship drama. Let's talk about the gore and the guts! "We have prosthetics guys who decorate these crazy corpses, and in Grimm every crime scene is more gruesome than the next," Giuntoli says. "It's amazing seeing what these guys put together. Corpses gnawed off…it's insane. They're fantastic."
We can't wait to see it! Check out our full interviews with the cast below, and take a walk with Giuntoli through Nick's monster profiler trailer. Spoiler alert: Nick's got some freaking awesome toys to play with.
Grimm premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC.
