CL&P opens Emergency Operations Center

BERLIN, CT (WFSB) -& 13;

Connecticut Light & Power has opened its Emergency Operations Center in Berlin as the historic October nor'easter makes its way through the state.

More than 200 tree and line crews are on the roads at the time working to clear trees from wires and restore power to the more than 200,000 customers in the dark as a result of Winter Storm Alfred.

"As was predicted, the heavy, wet snow is weighing down the trees and creating issues across the state," said Al Roy, CL&P's manager of Emergency Management.  "Our crews and support staff continue to respond as the storm moves through and we are communicating with town and state officials to coordinate efforts."

Officials at CL&P said it will be assessing storm damage as soon as its safe to do so.
