Cooking Mama 4 | games industry

Since first inviting consumers into the kitchen in 2006, the Cooking Mama franchise has sold over 12m units worldwide and has established a dedicated fanbase of virtual chefs.

Following several spin-offs that have seen Mama swap cooking for babysitting and kitchens for gardens, Cooking Mama 4 lets the the titular character return to her forte in her first 3DS title. There's over 100 new recipes for players to perfect and they can also use the 3DS's gyroscope by tilting the device to balance dishes, flip pans and even clean up and vacuum.

"Expectations are high for Cooking Mama 4," says 505 Games product manager Rebecca Wells.

"It enjoys the prestige of being the No.1 best-selling third party DS title. We will be looking to replicate this success with a TV campaign from launch, to capitalise on the gifting period."

Ads will also run online and in kids print media. The game joins new DS release Cooking Mama: Outdoor Adventures.
