Mayweather vs. Ortiz to be televised on Primetime PPV in UK

By Sean McDaniel: For British boxing fans having been used to seeing Floyd Mayweather Jr's previous fights on Sky regular television, they're going to have to pay to see his fight his next bout against WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on Primetime pay per view.

This is no doubt not good news for fans who may be hurting by a bad economy, but there's no other way around it unless they want to skip watching the fight altogether. For boxing fans in the U.S, paying to see Mayweather is already a given, as he's been fighting on PPV for quite some time.

However, this is actually a fight that's worth paying to watch for a change compared to the last couple of mismatches that Mayweather had against Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez. Ortiz isn't old like Marquez and Mosley, and he's not someone that's at a disadvantage because of limited size the way that Marquez was in his loss to Mayweather in 2009.

Ortiz is actually taller than Mayweather by one inch at 5'9", and clearly has the bigger frame of the two. Ortiz may come out on the losing end in this fight but he's going to go down swinging and make it worth paying to see.

Ortiz, 24, won't let Mayweather get a win on the cheap. He's going to make Mayweather work hard for this win and could punish him badly along the way.

For British fans used to seeing terrible PPV mismatches in recent years with David Haye and Amir Khan destroying badly over-matched opponents without a prayer, this is going to be a great fight. Mayweather is still fighting at a very high level at 34, and Ortiz is just now coming into his prime of his career. It should be a great fight while it lasts.
