A husband and wife pleaded guilty today to fraud for using the credit card of an elderly woman whose body was one of two buried near a Volusia County mobile home.
Prosecutors say Samuel Smith, who goes by "Adam," and his wife, Chrystal Cash Smith, used Goldie Robinson's credit card after her death.
Adam Smith, 26, pleaded no contest to fraudulent use of personal identification information of a dead person and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Chrystal Smith, 27, pleaded no contest to dealing in stolen property, three counts of fraudulent use of personal identification information of a dead person, fraudulent use of a credit card twice in six months and three counts of forgery.
They are scheduled to be sentenced May 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Detectives say the Smiths used Robinson's American Express card to charge gas and cigarettes at a South Daytona convenience store in August 2010.
Robinson was in her late 70s when she disappeared in mid-2010. Her body was found Sept. 3 in a shallow grave at Daytona Twin Oaks mobile-home park in South Daytona. Robinson and Adam Smith's mother, Kimberly, lived across the street from each other.
Another body, that of 67-year-old Arthur Sheldon, was found Aug. 25, 2010 in a large plastic bag in a garbage pail near Smith's mobile home, which she shared with her boyfriend, David Enos.
The bodies had been decomposing for months, and a cause of death has not been established. No one has been arrested in connection with the deaths, but police say they are continuing to investigate. They have named Kimberly Smith a person of interest in the case.
Enos, 39, was sentenced in August to 48 months of probation for pawning Robinson's generator, which was a gift from Roberts.
Kimberly Smith, 46, is in the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach awaiting trial on a charges of fraud and exploitation of the elderly. Police say she stole thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise from Robinson, including her car and mobile home.
