3rd best cartoon ever: The Band Concert - National Cartoon
The first Mickey Mouse film produced in color (1934), The Band Concert began with Disney's most popular character conducting a band in a park. The crowd was cheering wildly as the band transitioned to the William Tell Overture.
After some annoyances with his own band members, Mickey heard something even more disruptive, Donald Duck selling popcorn, ice cream, etc. in the audience and loudly hawking his wares. As the overture really began to swing, Donald jumped onto the stage, playing his flute. When the band, influenced by Donald, played an impromptu and less erudite Turkey in the Straw, Mickey saw fit to break the interloper's instrument.
Donald continued to magically produce flutes. This infuriated Mickey to the point of complete distraction. Turkey in the Straw and the William Tell Overture became competing pieces.
Having been kicked off the stage and his cart destroyed, Donald was attacked by a bee. The bee then flew to Mickey's head as he continued to conduct. Donald rifled an ice cream cone at the buzzing pest, beginning an ice cream free for all in the band. Mickey was temporarily thrown off his beat by ice cream running down his back.
Undaunted, the bee pestered Mickey, changing the cadence of the band, and eventually causing Goofy's head to be mallet driven into his uniform.
A tornado developed during the "Storm" section of the overture, eating everything in its path. The crowd quickly dispersed. Donald was left looking like a pretzel in some nearby trees. The band was spun, twisting, twisting, in the air, continuing to make music all the while. Still playing, the waning storm dropped individual band members in various places, many on one tree resembling a Yule log with ornaments.
Mickey was dumped back to earth on his stage, finishing the overture and taking a bow. The lone audience member remaining was Donald Duck and he had one more flute under his hat. He was pelted by various and sundry instruments as the cartoon ended.
