Weather Underground Launches Its New Weather API Platform at TechCrunch Disrupt - Business - Press Releases

& & Weather Underground, the Internet's first weather service, officially launched its new Weather API platform at this week's TechCrunch DISRUPT in San Francisco. This new automated API service provides developers with instant access to the reliable and in-depth weather data that Weather Underground is renowned for. &

Following a simple registration process, developers can select from three Feature Plans depending on the depth of weather data they require. All data is free for developers that select the lowest usage plan, which means that wunderground.com's data is accessible to all budget levels. This low usage option also provides developers with time to integrate data into their programs without any charges.

"Weather Underground already distributes its weather data to many of the world's leading media companies, weather applications and smaller web properties," said Alan Steremberg, President and Co-Founder of Weather Underground. "Our new self-service API platform will open up our data to thousands more developers working on web and mobile programs, big and small."

In addition to providing access to the world's largest network of personal weather stations, Weather Underground's API product includes free analytical tools that provide usage metrics and reports. The platform is completely scalable and developers can automatically select higher usage plans if and when they are required. Data feeds are currently available in JSON and RESTful with more format options coming soon.

"With the recent surge in the number of location-based applications, we hope that our new API platform will further disseminate all of the unique weather data and proprietary forecasts that we generate for wunderground.com," continued Steremberg. "Besides the quality of the data, we believe that our platform's usability and scalability set it apart from all other weather APIs."
